Come witness the future of the Cliff House in the making… On February 3rd 2003, The Cliff House began its long anticipated renovation. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, January 23rd 2003 The Cliff House celebrated its official Re-opening with a grand Party on October 19, 2004 Displayed in the architectural drawings above, the new Cliff House reflects an entirely updated facility that bridges past and present. It is a beautiful structure inspired by the style of the original 1909 structure including an impressive North Wing that incorporates architectural elements of the old Sutro Baths. Among the pleasing modern updates are three publicly accessible observation desks and expanded panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Ocean Beach and Seal Rocks, the Sutro Bath ruins, Marin Headlands and the entry to the Golden Gate. Most dramatic among the exciting new features is the new North Sutro Wing, which houses a gracious entry lobby that leads into an amazing dining room with a two story-high ceiling, skylights, and awe-inspiring views. The current dining room (Seafood & Beverage Company) has been transformed into a bistro style restaurant serving breakfast, light lunch and a light dinner, while the new main dining room in the Sutro Wing is offering an expanded menu of American-style cuisine with a seafood emphasis. The Cliff House banquet facility (The Terrace Room) remained where it was located one floor below the newly created bistro. The new Cliff Terrace extends west from this level, available for private sunset weddings ceremonies and other outside events. In addition, there is a decorative lounge open to the main dining room and bistro, and two beautiful new bars. The new Cliff House is also fully accessible for disabled persons, featuring a passenger elevator from the street level to the Cliff Terrace, and all public observation decks. Non-toxic, sustainable interior materials have been used, and the Cliff House's old redwood was saved for reuse. From the street, visitors will notice a breath-taking new roof scape free of mechanical apparatus and a greatly expanded front sidewalk. Additionally, the new layout provides for improved traffic flow and more accessible parking. It is an exciting time in the history of the San Francisco’s most historic waterfront establishment. On a more personal note, the Cliff House is happy to see many outstanding employees return as the renovation project has been completed, employees that have been vital members of our team and engrained themselves into the business and family that is the Cliff House. We welcome all of our returning employees as well as the many new talented employees that have joined our "Cliff House Family". |
